How our team captured authentic stories from Nairobi's vibrant youth community in our latest documentary project, challenging stereotypes and creating meaningful impact.
Our journey into documenting the lives of Kibera's youth began with a simple question: How can we tell stories that truly represent the diversity, resilience, and creativity of African communities?
For three months, our team immersed ourselves in the daily lives of young people in Kibera, capturing their dreams, challenges, and triumphs. We focused on creating a collaborative process where the subjects of our documentary became active participants in shaping their own narratives.
The result is a powerful documentary that goes beyond the typical narratives about informal settlements. Instead of focusing solely on challenges, we highlighted the innovation, entrepreneurship, and artistic expression thriving in these communities.
Since its release, the documentary has been screened in over 20 communities across Kenya and has sparked important conversations about youth empowerment and representation in media. We're proud to continue this work through our Ghetto Film Caravan initiative.
